Farmer D — Founder, Root Life

Farmer D is the founder of Root Life LLC, an Afro-Indigenous urban agriculture, food sovereignty, education and community wealth-building enterprise rooted in Greater New Haven, Connecticut.

For more than a decade he has worked where soil, culture, health, education and economic self-determination meet. Through Root Life he is building an ecosystem where fresh food becomes an entry point into agricultural knowledge, youth employment, entrepreneurship, cultural memory, environmental stewardship and stronger neighbourhood economies.

Root Life grows microgreens, herbs, vegetables, mushrooms and other specialty crops alongside weekly harvest memberships, value-added foods, educational programs, community events and agricultural workforce pathways. The guiding philosophy is simple: food should nourish people while strengthening the communities that produce it.

He is also a media storyteller and documentarian. That pairing shapes Root Life’s approach: every crop has biology, every seed has a history, every neighbourhood carries knowledge, and every harvest can tell a story.
