Come work the beds with us
Our sites need hands. Not once a year for a photograph — every week, in every season, to keep the ground going and growing. Open days are posted here first and emailed to the list before they fill.
You do not need to belong to an organization, know a plant, or own a pair of boots. You need a morning and a willingness to get dirt under your nails. You will leave knowing something about growing food in a city that you did not know when you arrived.

Days go up roughly a week ahead, and the list hears first. Spring bed prep and the weekly harvest mornings fill fastest.

Come as yourself
One person, one morning. Take a spot on any open day, arrive, and a grower puts you to work alongside the crew. Come once or come every week — both are useful and neither is a commitment you have to explain.
Under 16 comes with a grown-up. Everyone signs a short waiver on arrival, once.
Lane two
Bring a group
Congregations, classes, teams, block clubs, families. Groups get their own date rather than filling an open day, because eight people need eight jobs ready and a grower who planned for them.
Six or more, three weeks’ notice where you can. Tell us your size and we build the morning around it.

Where volunteering stops
Volunteers do not replace paid work
Root Life pays a $21/hour floor and runs paid apprenticeships. Volunteer mornings sit alongside that work — they never stand in for a job that should be paid, and no volunteer day exists because a role went unfilled.
If you are here because you want this to be your work rather than your morning, say so on the form. That is a different conversation and a better one.
