Gather · Workshops & Experiences
Root Life offers hands-on workshops, plant-based cooking demonstrations, documentary screenings, AI training, garden activations, community conversations, farm festivals, guided hikes and urban garden retreats rooted in the living work of our farms, kitchens, media practice and food-sovereignty ecosystem.
Plant a tray. Build a garden. Cook the harvest. Watch a story. Walk through the woods. Learn how technology can serve the village without replacing the people.
We never present a future ambition as a service you can book today. Status appears on every card, filter and detail page — and it is never carried by colour alone.

Start where you are
Pick a pathway and the catalogue below narrows to the experiences built for that group — with the pricing lane that applies to you.
{{ audNote }}
Not booking — want to work?
Nothing on this page is a prerequisite. Open days are posted on the volunteer board first and emailed to the list before they fill — bed prep, harvest mornings, compost, seed starting, site builds. Groups get their own date rather than filling an open day.
Volunteers never stand in for a job that should be paid. The $21/hour floor and the paid apprenticeships run alongside this, not instead of it.
Three pricing lanes on every one
These are the experiences we run most and teach best. Each has a full detail page with outcomes, materials, accessibility, consent requirements and upcoming dates.
Every experience we teach or produce, grouped by collection. Each line carries how often it runs, what it costs and whether it takes a public ticket or is scheduled with your group — nothing here implies a date we have not confirmed.

No experience matches that combination yet. Clear a filter, or ask us to build it — custom workshops are a real lane, not a fallback.

Sponsored seats are held on every public date. Request one or fund one — no income documentation, no explanation required.
Choose foundation modules, add a specialised track, pick a format. The estimate updates as you go and arrives with your request so the first email is already a real conversation.

Pilot · Site approval required
Sleep beside the garden. Wake with the soil. Eat from the harvest. Leave more rooted than you arrived.
Root Life Urban Garden Retreats combine camping, farming, plant-based food, documentary storytelling, community conversation, outdoor learning, sound, rest and nature immersion within the living landscape of our urban agricultural sites.
Urban land can feed us, teach us and hold us. For one night, slow down enough to hear it.
Overnight retreats are offered only at approved Root Life or partner sites after property authorization, site inspection, capacity review and completion of applicable land-use, permitting, fire-safety, sanitation, insurance and neighborhood-notification requirements.
Owning, leasing, gardening or regularly using a site does not make it approved for overnight use. Overnight is a separate operational category, activated site by site.

{{ overnightDisclosure }}
Initial pilots are adults-only, guardian-attended family retreats, or private groups with assigned adult supervision. We do not offer unaccompanied youth overnight retreats until a separately reviewed youth-protection system is in place. Unrelated adults and minors never share tents.
We collect emergency contact, allergies, dietary needs, accessibility needs, medication needed in an emergency, guardian information, tent-sharing preference, equipment and transportation. We do not ask you to disclose unrelated diagnoses.
You should be able to size a booking before you email us. Base price, materials, minimum, deposit, travel and upgrades are stated on every experience — and every price on this site comes from one record, so it cannot drift between pages.
Community access is supported through sponsored seats, partner-funded cohorts and institutional cross-subsidy — not by treating skilled agricultural, educational and cultural labor as free.
Guest educators, artists, cultural advisors and knowledge holders are compensated. Exposure is not compensation.
Every path is visible before you start it, so nothing arrives as a surprise at the payment step.

Working terms, drafted for attorney review before publication. Root Life may modify, pause, relocate, delay, reschedule, cancel or evacuate for weather or safety, and a safety decision cannot be overridden by the client.
You only see the modules your experience actually requires. Most people can attend everything we run without ever consenting to promotional media.

You never need a diagnosis to request an accommodation. Ask on any form and we prepare before you arrive.

{{ a.what }}
Come once with your hands. Come back with your people. Workshop participants get $10 off their first 28-day cycle of the Weekly Harvest — the same crops you just planted, cut for you every week.
